Group Hike & Picnic

Join us for our group hike and picnic. We will begin at mile-one of the Pine Mountain Trail and make our way to the Park Office just before mile four. We will take a break and you can enjoy your lunch on the picnic tables or spread out on the grass with amazing views while you relax and eat. You can also visit the Park Office and grab a cold drink, ice cream, or check out all their store. After we eat we will head back on the trail and re-trace our steps.

Young Iron Braider's Day Camp

Young Iron Braider's Day Camp is for girls ages eight to twelve. The girls will spend their time experiencing success and building confidence.  Through learning new skills and applying them, they will gain a sense of pride, grow more independent, improve social skills, reconnect with nature and make new friends.  Our goal is that the girls will gain a passion for the outdoors and a desire to explore the world with the knowledge they will gain. 

We will start the day with some fun games then we will explore a one-mile trail to collect leaves, rocks, and sticks for our nature print crafts. The girls will also learn about nature and some history of the area.

Join us for our 12-mile out and back hike. We will begin at the Country Store parking area and hike about six miles to the Fox Den Cove parking lot. We will take a break at this point so bring your lunch. We will also have a shuttle ride for those that don't want to continue on. You will need to carry enough water for six miles and we will have water available for refills at the halfway point as well as fresh cold orange slices. After lunch, we will retrace our steps back to the Country Store parking lot.

This class is designed for those that have attended our Backpacking Basics I class. We will put the skills you learned to the test. We will hike a little over a mile to a campsite on the Pine Mountain Trail at FDR State Park. You will bring all your gear and you will set up camp, cook your food, filter water, and much more. Waiting until you are out on the trail is not the time to test your skills and your gear. Join us in a safe environment where we can make adjustments and give guidance. You should pack your backpack as if you were actually going on a backpacking trip. We will complete a gear check and give recommendations.

Hike & Learn

Join us as we hike the 3.4-mile Overlook Loop on the Pine Mountain Trail. We will stop along the way and you will learn wilderness first aid for the most common injuries on the trail. You will learn how to improvise using what you have available to you, what should be in your first aid kit, and how to respond and get help in an emergency situation. We will talk about the proper way to remove ticks and what to do if someone is bitten by a snake.

We want you to enjoy the great outdoors safely and be prepared. So join us for a fun hike and learn valuable information.

Cascade Falls Group Hike

Cascade Falls Group Hike

Join us for our April Group Hike where we will hike to Cascade Falls.  We will cross over water 13 times on the way (using stepping stones at most crossings along with 6 bridges.) It's about two miles to the falls where we will take a break, before hiking back out. You can hike up to the top of the Wolfden cave cliff for the views of the falls from above. It is ok to wade in the pool with caution due to rocks in the bottom.  We will see lots of native plants and trees along the way to Cascade Falls. 

Please wear durable shoes as some sections can be a little slippery. Bring your lunch to enjoy at our halfway point.

We are joining FDR State Park for their annual Fool's Walk. This event is open to everyone. We will hike the whole twenty-three miles of the Pine Mountain Trail. If you are doing the Fool's Walk hike in March or you just want to challenge yourself, join us for our group hike where we will hike about 12 miles. We will begin our journey at the Country Store parking lot and end at the Mollyhugger Hill parking lot.

We will stop along the way to rest and we will take a break so you can eat your lunch. You will need to carry enough water for six miles and we will have water available for a refill at the halfway point. We will have two guides to support you on this hike as some people enjoy hiking at a faster pace and some like to go at a slower pace and enjoy the views. We will also be providing tips and tricks to help you be successful on long hikes.
