Leave a Piece of Yourself
Through the years I have met some very interesting people that I spent only a moment with. The stories that I’ve been told, the things I’ve been taught, and the kindness that is shared are all amazing things I have brought off the trail. I have learned that there are basically three types of people you will pass along the trail. There are those you will come upon that are quiet and still carrying their internal struggles. Those you smile politely, as if to tell them you understand where they are, and it will be okay. You leave them to their journey and let them quietly take your smile. Then there are those that are just starting to figure things out. After some small talk and encouragement, you part ways. Lastly, there are those of us that understand and are capable of leaving the world behind us for just a moment. This group tends to always leave you with a little piece of themselves. When you pass someone on the trail leave a little piece of yourself with them. You never know what brought them to the wilderness. Whether its just a smile, encouragement, lessons, or stories, leaving a piece of yourself is the greatest gift you can give. Remember, it’s not about the trail, it’s about what we find on the trail.
So you see, this introvert that has learned to leave her world behind when she goes into the wilderness, loves the fact that she understands each phase, and it makes her smile knowing that if they just keep putting one foot in front of the other, they will get to that place, too. That place that we all desire. That place where they are happiest, and the world seems good again.
