Here’s my gear review… Try, try again until you find the perfect gear. Yup that’s my great gear advice. I do read all the gear reviews and I have based some of my purchases off of those reviews. But what I have learned over the years is what one person loves another hates.
I hiked many miles in my first pair of boots. I still have them. They were recommended as the perfect pair of boots. So, after many blisters and the loss of toe nails, I thought, "What am I doing wrong?" I followed all the rules. Got them a little bigger, made sure I tied them right, and nothing worked. I switched to trail running shoes, and I love them. No blisters and no loss of toe nails. Victory!!! Hiking boots are recommended for good reason, but for me I choose trail running shoes. If you are going with hiking boots, try them all on until you find the right pair for you. If you go with trail running shoes, strengthen those ankles.
What pack to use?? I went to a trusted store where I was measured, and a pack was recommended. I purchased and went on my first trip with this pack only to suffer from back cramps and pains. My hips hurt for days after this trip. The pack was returned immediately. I spoke to another person who recommended a pack, and once again I was disappointed. First, they were measuring me wrong. I was not a medium, turns out I was a small. I know this because I learned how to measure myself the correct way. Tried another pack, and perfection! I still use the same pack. Yes, I am one with my pack.
What tent to buy? Decide your price range, pay attention to the weight of the tent, and, finally, check reviews. Using this criteria, I found the perfect tent for me.
See where I’m going with this? There’s lots of great gear out there. You just have to find what works for you. I could give you a list of all the gear I use, but I’m certain there would be some that think "She doesn’t know what she's talking about."
As long as you take into consideration things such as weight, support, price, and use, you will find something that works for you.
So I recommend that you do your research and try it.. You to will find what works best for you. That’s my great gear recommendation!
