We all come from different walks of life, have followed different paths, and sometimes struggle to remain true to ourselves and stay focused. One thing we have in common is we are women, and we are strong. Whether you are a stay home mom, a career woman, married, or single, we all need adventure. Sometimes we loose ourselves in our strive to be the best at our jobs, the best mom, daughter, friend or wife. One of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves and our loved ones is to step away from the demands of our lives once in awhile. When we reconnect with ourselves and other women, we become better at whatever roles we play in our lives.
If I didn’t have adventure in my life, those moments when it’s just about me, I don’t think I would be able to be the best I can be at anything. All the roles I play in my life I cherish and wouldn’t change. I’m in no way saying my life is horrible and I have to escape it. What I’m saying is, the things I love and cherish become even greater when I return from an adventure. This is something very important to me, which I have taught my daughter. It’s okay to make yourself a priority once in awhile. Our lives can become routine and I believe this leads to poor decisions, failed relationships, feelings of doubt as a mother, or boredom at work. We’ve all heard the saying, absence makes the heart grow fonder. When I leave, my presence is missed and an appreciation for what I do grows. I love returning from a trip and my daughter is so excited to hear about my adventures and to tell me all about what she’s been doing. I promise, your world will keep spinning even if you step away for a little bit.
In addition to building stronger relationships with those I love, it also makes me stronger. When I disappear on an adventure, it becomes about that moment. It becomes about me. How can we know what our limits are if we never test them? If I had to pick one thing that I personally take away from my adventures it would be how the struggles of your journey translate into your everyday life. As I said before, we are in awe when we see the view from the summit but we must also be in awe of the journey to get there. Just like in life, we have to embrace the hard parts to appreciate when things are great. That feeling that you have when you make it to the top and look down at where you came from is unbelievable.
So ladies, please make time for yourself. Let your adventurous side out and explore the world!
