Hunting Season and Hiking
We love hitting the trails during this time of year. The weather is perfect and the trees begin to shed their clothes. But it is also hunting season so we wanted to talk a little about how to keep yourself safe.
Hunting season is not the time to wear your khaki pants and colors that blend in. Pull out those orange and bright color clothes. Make sure you can be seen.
We usually tell you to respect other hikers and to not make a lot of noise. This is the only time of year that we say otherwise. Dance, sing, laugh, make noise and have fun. Let others in the area know you are human. If you are loud, animals and hunters will not hang around.
It's important to know what animals are in the area you will be hiking. If you come across a kill spot be cautious. There may be animals close by looking for a snack.
It's important to know the hunting season dates and species being hunted in your area. If the area you want to hike has a small window to hunt, you may just want to stay away from that area. Some areas may close down trails to hikers. So before you head out, do your research.
We want you to enjoy this season on the trails but more importantly, we want you to be safe.
